Fried egg and omelette
- Koro, what would you like for dinner?
- Fried egg!
- Well, okay
We put on our work clothes and I fix an apron for my 4-year-old daughter, and when I am about to crack the egg in the frying pan, she says to me:
- Nooooo, dad! First on the plate, I want to mix the egg on the plate.
- Ah, you want a French omelette, don't you?
- No, I want a fried egg, but I want to “sweep” the egg on the plate.
- Are you sure Koro? If we beat the egg, we can only make an omelette, won't you eat the omelette later?
- Mmmmm... yes, omelette, I want a French omelette!
I bring a stool to the marble and break the egg into a deep dish, add salt and beat the egg for a long time, leaving about 33% of it around the bowl. With what's left, I pour it into the pan and make the omelette.
- Which dish do you want?
- El blau (the blue)
I drop the omelette onto his favourite plate and the drama ensues:
- Noooo! Dad, I wanted fried egg! Not omelette!
- But I have explained it to you before Koro....
- Noooooo! - between sobs - I told you egg, I wanted egg... buaaaah!!!!
She plops down on the floor and makes a scene, a tantrum that lasts about half an hour until my eldest daughter arrives and agrees to eat the omelette that her sister didn't want. At home I don't allow food to be thrown away, so until the family pact is reached I am inflexible with my daughter, who finally gets her fried egg.
And sometimes we want it all, making a French omelette is much more fun than frying a fried egg, as it has its own moment of beating and mixing the ingredients, which is very entertaining. While the fried egg is only for grown-ups, we can't take part in the process, which is very dangerous, according to papa, as the oil burns a lot. Of course, the taste of the fried egg and the moment of dipping bread in it cannot be compared to the French omelette, which is more practical and allows us to eat while we are doing other activities, such as playing, drawing or watching cartoons.
Happy New Year, try to enjoy your daily activities and the process (if it allows you to) or savour the end result.
Very good, I loved it!
Thank you very much Dani! :)
Short story with a moral... a fable... It reminded me of a conversation I had in college about Erich Fromm's «Fear of freedom» hehehehehehe....
Mmmm... I didn't know it, I'll write it down ;)
Hug!
